Not thrilled as it should have came w/ an AT-AT for $250.  Barely looks like a $150 set

Over on fbtb.net they have pictures of the box. Only thing new we a getting other than a few minifigres is an ion cannon, and the shield generator.

Exactly what I was expecting. Craptastic. That's one set I haven't got to buy.

I agree this Hoth set makes the Ewok Village look much, much better

Everyone is pretty damning. I don't own a single Hoth set (well and AT-AT), so it works out as a decent way of getting started for me.  When I first read the post I thought the minifigure line sounded good and that would sell it to me, but it looks a bit 'bitty'.  A bigger base with more inside would have been better maybe.
As it is it kind of feels like £200 just to make my AT-AT go from looking good to looking AWESOME.  I reckon at £150 it would have been fantastic (for someone with no previous Hoth sets)

This is such a waste of a UCS set this year, they could have made this 1,000x better.

Does anyone else feel like the Wampa/cave is a cheap throw in? It feels so misplaced

I thought the Bat Cave was expensive for what it is but at least I could look at it through nostalgia goggles.
I am not impressed with this at all for the price point.
I cannot fathom here TLG are going with these expensive "play" sets. At least EV looked nice when displayed as one build all connected, but as others have mentioned, this looks like lots of smaller, non connected  sets all sold together.

The Hoth set does seem pretty weak. l mean it's just a bunch of stuff we've already had before, but then they give us that nipple gun from the movie and a wampa?

I think I'll stick with my current setup. Adding #75138 to it brings it pretty close with the massive advantage of some Imperials attacking the base.

I'm honestly surprised they've put a UCS stamp on the box. The set looks like something that would've been in the $119.99 price slot not too long ago.
I imagine they could have done an amazing Cloud City set for $250.
Probably not. The way pricing is now, it would need to be ~$400 to be amazing.

Extremely disappointed as this was a set I was looking forward to getting. Just looks like they've dug up some of the older Hoth sets, thrown them together and stuck a UCS sticker on it.

Thanks. It cost less money too. The AT-AT was £70, the old Hoth Base £55, the Snowspeeder £22 and the small one £7, 3 Rebel troopers for £12 with the trans clear parts around £1 for a total of £167. I currently have 22 minifigs. I can add a couple of Hoth Attacks sets for £40 at today's prices or less when Amazon have them on sale.

I'd much rather hav 2 AT-AT and the old hoth base, at least you can have an assault there.  Where is the assault in this set? the 2 snowtroopers?
  • FauchFauch FranceMember Posts: 1,411
it looks like a bunch of playsets. doesn't look bad, but looks overpriced. I would guess the base is still like 40 cm large, so pretty large.

@bumblepants you need to read the "Value vs A value" thread :-)

Not bothered about the Hoth set but if it makes Ewok Village look like good value then maybe I'll finally pull the trigger on that instead.  But what I *really* want is a Bespin play set....

When I first heard about this set I had pictured it being a bit  like a display piece  they had in FAO Schwarz in New York a couple of years back ( hanger for the falcon, snowspeeders etc and guns and stuff out side) so that it could be a stand alone build that other sets that were being  produced could have been added to.
It seems really strange to release this set the year after they discontinue the snow speeder and AT-AT which are fairly important vehicles to a set like this and IMO, this set would have had more of an impact in the middle of last year when related sets were still available to add to such an iconic scene.
It would be quite nice to have a wave of episode specific sets like they have with TFA and currently do with the city sets so you could buy to your budget without missing important vehicles that are now harder / more expensive to get instead of releasing an expensive set that has no continuity with current sets.

I mentioned on the 'Hoth what will we get this time?' Thread. This looks like a great set for someone that has no Hoth Lego, all the key elements are present plus we see an ion canon and generator for the first time, not forgetting that door has only been seen once before and that in a 2007 limited set.

on the other hand there isn't as much new for those of us with all the previous Hoth sets, but I think there is enough to begin combining all those sets to enlarge the base etc. which I think works better than buying multiple ones of this set.

without seeing in the brick it is a bit harsh to fully judge, no one knows how complex the mechanisms around the door are etc. or the full raft of figures and play features.

i get the sense that this is being received much like the helicarrier was last year, a lot of hype when we knew about it, followed by some initial disappointed when the first images leaked, before going on to be a solid seller for Lego and actually a truly great model.

even after this weekend I doubt it will be until May when people start buying and seeing it shop windows that we can really judge, I know I will be getting come May and it will be going into my knew display case along with the other Hoth sets.

That's the one, only got a couple of pictures when I was there, but couldn't find where I had stored them.

I know the structure is fairly basic but as a build that can be added to with the sets that were available at the time it is really nice.

I was expecting something along these lines or like the Ewok Village, a big iconic set piece that can be added to with smaller sets to make a nice display or play set.

I hate that this is getting the UCS badging.  It clearly is a playset.

And a mish-mash of previous sets.

I have to say there are two or three sets that I see coming I am buying before Hoth Base...Captain Rex's AT-TE #75157 is one of them. The X-Wing #75149 looks so much better in White/Grey and Blue!!

UCS badging is for AFOL aimed display sets, what a waste of a UCS slot. AFOLs (generally) buy the big sets, looks like Lego are trying to stretch the limits of playset money, or perhaps Disney have more of a say in what gets made?

Fundamentally, the UCS badge is just marketing fluff.  But I still find it aggravating.

And I sincerely doubt Disney has much weight in how Lego designs or produces sets, or how they market their franchises.  I they're more focused on the $2 Billion dollars in revenues and the ancillary royalties they're collecting.

^No sandcrawler?  Definitely  not UCS ...
  • xwingpilotxwingpilot 577 miles from BillundMember Posts: 600
If TLG want to put UCS on the box of a playset without a UCS plaque like the Sandcrawler then fine. It's still a very impressive display set. This, however, not so much. LEGO has pushed the UCS branding boundaries before with the Naboo Starfighter (with only 176 parts), but at least it came with a stand and a plaque. This time there is nothing 'UCS' about the set, and I think that TLG are in danger of losing the AFOL-oriented appeal of the UCS branding.

To be fair, the rebel Hoth base was never clearly defined in Empire.  I mean, can anyone honestly say that they knew how big the shield generator was just by watching the movie?  Really there's not a lot to go by.  The hangar bay is the most clearly defined space but that's not interesting on its own.  It's questionable why Lego even bothered with this set.  Especially with the AT-AT being retired.  The biggest issue really is the lack of imperial forces. At the very least they should have included a small AT-ST and a few more snow troopers.

Cloud City is doable but it would need to be Death Star in size to do reasonable justice to what is seen in the movie.

I can only understand releasing this after the AT-AT retired if a UCS AT-AT is on the pipeline for release in 2017. Now that I have about 2/3 of the parts for Cavegod's version, that would be ironic.

You'd think that Lego would understand this. You'd probably want the thing that actually does the "Assault on Hoth" available to consumers at the same time as your new UCS play set, instead of retiring it 6 months before the USC set goes on sale.

I really hope there's a new AT-AT in the works. I just doubt it. Too soon.

Taken from Reddit - announcing the new UCS 'Adventure on Tatooine"

If this were in keeping with the Assault on Hoth, then this set ought to be devoid of Adventure.

Perhaps a half-hearted rendering of Toshe Station to buy power coverters?  (And not the fun kind from Robot Chicken.)

Or a remedial class on the binary language of moisture vaporizers?

Looking through the images for the new Star Wars wave the Resistance X-Wing has absolutely stunning box art with the purples and blues in the night sky contrasted with the glow of explosions on the sand below. It was just a couple years ago the UCS X-Wing got the generic system matching Yoda treatment for a really bland looking box. Almost put me off from buying it. Nice to see effort going into even regular sets box design now.
