Research about minifigures

PTI_StudentPTI_Student DenmarkMember Posts: 2

Hi

We are a group of product development students from Denmark. Currently we are working on a project related to LEGO Minifigures.

We are interested in your opinion about a webshop, where you, with an online tool, can design your own minifigures.

The online tool would be a database combined with a design tool, which provides you a blank minifigure and from a database you can access different facial, body and leg patterns. In addition, you would be able to complete your minifigure with hair pieces and accessories.

We would like to know if you are interested in using a service like this?

Kind regards

If they are existing lego parts, people can already build their own minifigures by selecting and buying parts through bricklink and/or brickowl. There are also many other custom minifigure services that exist, some that use just genuine lego parts and others that use their own custom printed parts and others still that allow you to upload your own design and print them. So the market is already quite well established. If you are going to enter it, you will need to provide something that the other places do not.

Firstly, we would like to thank you on response. Secondly, the whole research is not about making something that is not existing on the market and to bring in a totally new idea. The idea is just to improve an already existing business, where we should test our business concept through hypothesis theory. Therefore, we are just interested in customer (your) opinion on would you use this service if it was available. We are aware that there are tools that allow you to design minifigures, but lets say that there is a webshop which provides this service online. We are interested in if it would be attractive to LEGO fans to use this type of service or not.

The point is, it is already available, and there are a number of competing services already, such as:

    http://minifig.fab-bricks.com/

where you can buy both genuine lego parts and custom printed ones, using a tool to design the minifigure.

The fact that multiple businesses already compete for this market suggests that there are some (enough) people that will use such a service to make it viable.

Based on the prices of the parts offered, I doubt that most people that use such services are lego fans building generic figures, but rather someone that wants some custom lego figures made and doesn't know about other lego marketplaces.

If you come up with an improvement over the existing online minifigure customization shops, design a website that looks good and works without falling down, make products as least as good as the existing sites, match or undercut prices, and don't get in trouble with IP holders for infringement, it might work. What improvement(s) do you have in mind over the existing sites?
