[US] Target - 15% off 8043 Technic Excavator, 10% off 5887 Dino HQ

Target has the 8043 Technic Excavator for 15% off, $170.90 + Free Ship. Not too bad of a deal, and for those that have redcard or other discounts that could push it to 20% off. I recently got one during the TRU BOGO and must say its a nice build and includes many Power Functions.

Dino HQ 5887 is on sale for $89.10, which I think matches B&N price.
Not much else besides these two sets.

Could this please be moved to Shopping US. - Moved - @Matthew

^ Thanks. Yup. Only thing to note - If you are willing to buy more than one the TRU BOGO is a better deal. 2 8043's for $300. But, as you mentioned, with the Target Red Card the price is $161.50. A very good price, and you only have to buy one set.

Target, plus $5 off retailmenot, plus 5% redcard... Nice price on 5887, just ordered one... :)

Yeah, thanks! Finally pulled the trigger on the Excavator. The sale price, combined with LFT's $5 code, RedCard and a $25 gift card I've been sitting on... couldn't resist. My actual cost was ~$140.

What is the coupon code? I'm planning to purchase the FB tonight. I would love to save an extra $5.

I'm not sure what the actual code is, but it worked for me by following the link to Target from the Retailmenot website. Should just take you a moment to find once there.

    edit: http://www.retailmenot.com/view/target.com

click on the "$5 OFF $50 PLUS FREE SHIPPING" and it should auto apply it to your the order in your cart

Thanks for the help! Maybe I was just blind, but it took me a while to find it. I read the comments and saw one of you anonymously posted that you save $5.

On a somewhat different topic, I've been reading some horror stories about Target.com online shopping experiences and I've become quite paranoid about the subject and my order. People online have written reviews about their shopping experience on Target.com saying that the item they purchased has been delayed for a month or two and have not been able to cancel the order. Well have any of you purchased from Target.com and could you please share your experience with me and others on the forum.

A few weeks ago, I ordered a MMV from Target.com. It was shipped promptly, and the box was in perfect condition. I have no complaints from my experience. Hope your set arrives safely, @LegobrandonCP.

I've not purchased a lot from them but what I have (noteably a Imperial Flagship and a MMV) were packaged in what I'd consider somewhat oversized boxes. The sets came thru just fine but it would have been horribly easy for them to have gotten smushed.

I suspect that the folks that are having (or that are claiming to have) all these issues are folks that were trying for heavily discounted sets or doing multiple orders in a short time frame.
If you are buying a set or two you should be just fine.

Yep, I just ordered the FB. How long did it take for them to process your order and ship them out?

Every time I've placed a LEGO order with Target, the set(s) arrived in a ridiculously oversized box. The poor distribution warehouse workers... I picture their packing options to be as such:

box #1 (fits things such as a baseball, a bottle of shampoo, a bag of candy)
box #2 (fits things such as a couch, a bicycle, a small car)

    That's it.

I ordered over the weekend (I forget which day) and an attempted delivery was made today.

Wow! That is quick. I'm still waiting for an email with a tracking number. Where are you located? I am shipping my package to Washington state.

Louisville, KY. It should be said that we have the largest UPS distribution center in the world, so that usually speeds up deliveries to me by about a day. But yes, still quite fast! I got the shipment confirmation from Target in my email on Sunday night.

I guess this was a bit reassuring for me. But I'm still worried about the FB getting cancelled. Anyways, I'm thinking too hard about this topic, I think I should loosen up a bit and let the Target warehouse employees do their jobs. lol.

EDIT: I just checked the status of my order on the website. Looks like I'm not allowed to cancel my order anymore. I guess that is a good sign?

I too ordered MMV last month from Target (when it was still on sale) and received it within a week. Not as fast as Amazon but I cannot complain. Shipping box was oversized but the product box was in perfect shape. No complaints. I'm tempted to order Fire Brigade but I can't afford to get into modulars at this time.

One more question, do they actually call you with the phone number you provide? I believe I mentioned this on another topic, but I am shipping my package to a package receiving company. They charge a small fee for every package. Since I don't live in that state, I don't have a local phone number. So I just used the company's phone number hoping for the best.
  • OdinduskOdindusk Member Posts: 763
Nah, I believe the phone number is only if they have issues delivering your product. I've never been called by anyone after five or so different orders.

Yes I do. I apologize if this is getting annoying. I will stop posting on this thread now. Sorry about that.

Received my Excavator today, now that I wasn't at class to miss the UPS delivery.

I'm rather impressed with the condition of the box. There's a 3-inch diagonal crease extending from a corner toward the middle on the back of the box, but otherwise it's suburb. Looks like a warehouse-fresh set. I'm not so certain I could have handpicked a better box direct from a LEGO store.

Once again, Target opted to ship the set in a gargantuan box. Which is fine, because they packed this extremely well, and so I now have a rather large supply of those air-filled pouches to reuse whenever I next need to ship anything out.

As for the set itself, I won't be building it anytime soon, but I couldn't resist cracking it open and looking at the contents. In doing so, it became immediately apparent that the box for this set is laughably oversized. The parts for this set could easily fit into a box half the size, and maybe even one smaller than that. Cracks me up how LEGO insists on using these too-large boxes just to convey a price tier and their grandeur.

@odindusk - Motorized Excavator is really expensive for the part count, the power functions being the reason... but still, people forget that it is only about 1,100 parts, which is an average sized Technic set these days. The new Logging Truck has 200 more parts.

That doesn't make ME bad, it just means that it has to go in that big box to make people feel good about spending $200 on the set. People forget that the power functions are not standard 2x4 bricks. :)

Unimog is a much heavier box and probably much more full, but I haven't opened one to check.

I know I said I would not post on this thread anymore but I just thought I would update you guys on this. This morning I received an email from Target claiming my order was delayed and the expected arrival date was pushed back almost a week. Tonight, I went on Target.com and checked the status of my order and lo and behold the status said "shipped". My order has shipped via UPS from Ontario, California. But no shipping email was sent to me. So yes, I don't have to worry anymore. Thanks for answering all my questions guys.
