I love a list!  I like thinking up lists and I like reading (and agreeing - or disagreeing with) other people's lists too.

So give me your Top Five!

Could be anything...
  • Top Five sets
  • Top Five elements
  • Top Five hiding places for stashing purchases that maybe you shouldn't have bought
  • Top Five reasons why that UCS Millennium Falcon was a day one purchase
  • Top Five comebacks for people who say 'Lego?  But that's for children isn't it?'
  • Top Five reasons for visiting Brickset
I'll kick off with...

My Top Five excuses for coming home with an unplanned purchase...

  1. I was going to buy it anyway, and I saw it going cheap!
  2. They're going to stop making it soon, and if I missed it now I'd have to pay inflated prices!
  3. There was a freebie if I bought it today!
  4. But I had lots of points on my VIP card - it was practically free!
  5. What?  That old thing?  I've had that ages!

Top five reasons I bought the new UCS MF.

    1. I missed out on the original
    2. It was cheaper than a used or bricklinked, original
    3. It' better in almost every way than the original.
    4. Wife won' let me buy the original
    5. I have never bought a Millenium Falcon lego set before. I love the ship but wasn' satisfied with a 'system scale' version.

Top five ugly sets I own and love, in order of release, but not necessarily in order of purchase.
    1. #6901 Mobile Lab - bought this on eBay when I got back into the hobby around 2004, it's so ugly I can't believe it made it into production, but it's a really, really great set.
    2. #7151 Sith Infiltrator - it's the blocky, low-res pixelated half-sister-half-wheelie-bin representation of Darth Maul's ship, but it comes from a point in time when I still had hope the prequel trilogy was going to be great.
    3. #7190 Millennium Falcon - at the time I thought it was wonderful, it was the Falcon in LEGO! Allowing for the limitations of the available parts at time, she's not pretty, but she's got it where it counts!
    4. #21103 Delorean - if you're going to build a time-machine out of LEGO, why not do it with some style? It has so much going for it though, the misprint on the Flux capacitor tile, the wealth of printed tiles in fact. It oozes nostalgia for a film that is still one of my favourites.
    5. #71000-2 Cyclops - not really a set, but he is ugly and totally fantastic at the same time.

Top 5 12v train sets (influenced by a heavy dose of nostalgia)

    1. #7740 InterCity - Original and best, the flagship of the initial wave was a massive leap forward in design, with loco and coaches in distinctive red and yellow livery
    2. #7760 Shunter - classy and endearing little standalone model, not really done since
    3. #7745 High Speed Train - clearly based on the TGV and precursor to the Horizon Express, this seemed like another design leap at the time.
    4. #7750 Steam Engine - excitingly large for the time and often at the forefront of contemporary advertising - still a holy grail for many collectors
    5. #7735 Freight Train - great little engine and good selection of rolling stock

Top 5 favorite marvel figs I own (currently at least, it changes all the time):

#5: Green Goblin. I really like this figure's color scheme, and the printing is nice as well
#4: Drax. His tattoos are so intricate that it's not even funny! I wish his face was a little happier, though

#3: Thanos. Once again, this color scheme is brilliant, and its the only Thanos figure so far... plus it's a bigfig! Who doesn't like bigfigs?
#2: War machine. I recently acquired this figure, and I always like the new ones, so this one is high on the list. It looks great!
#1: Gladiator Hulk. This choice needs no explanation...

Top five "Seriously LEGO what the heck is going on here" sets.
    5. #7892 Hospital.  The only hospital in history where more injuries occur AT the hospital than the city it's in. Possibly dedicated solely to the care of Parkour participants...
    4. #3314 Police Unit.  TLG has a strict non violence policy... Lego City's Police Force always employ justifiable force.
    3. #1687 Midnight Transport.  What exactly gets transported in suitcases at midnight?  Why is that muscle shirted guy loading a dark van on a remote desert airstrip?  Cue the Miami Vice music...
    2.  #4621 Red Flash Station.  Flashing is the only thing this station is actually large enough for!  I'm not sure who's flashing who but I don't trust that guy with the silver moustache for a second.
    1. #6404 Carriage Ride.  Horse - check, Carriage - check, fancy suit - check, whip - check, lady without pants - huh?  Seriously TLG?  Fifty shades of WTH...

My all time top 5 list of sets I do not have and get really annoyed about:

    1. #928 - Space Cruiser and Moonbase. Stupid older brother who got it instead.
    2. #8169 - Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4. Why didn't I see this set? Why?
    3. #75011 - Tantive IV & Planet Alderaan. "Nope, I don't need this to go with my other planets sets. Firstly, I get a mini T4 with my Star Destroyer, and secondly, it's not like they'll release loads of other OT spaceships in polybags and magazine gifts is it?"
    4. #31045 - Ocean Explorer. Yes, I could buy it tomorrow, but I've seen the price history on Amazon go down to £8 in the past and I'm determined to get it as close0 to that price as I can. It's not going anywhere near at the moment though!
    5. #????? - One from the future that I won't think about until it's long gone into the past. It's just bound to happen... Stupid Lego variety and my stupid lack of precognition!

That this list does not contain any UCS sets both surprises and pleases me.

Top five parts I'd like LEGO to make.
    1. Plates with studs on both sides, preferably with bar holes through each stud.
    2. Macaroni slopes in a variety of diameters and inclines, including macaroni cheese!
    3. Technic pins and axle pins that finish with a variety of bars and clips.
    4. More trans yellow windscreens.
